Caleb's Mission - the music CDs for Health Help International

Between 2001 and 2003, Caleb recorded three CDs of music and four of stories for HHI.

The latest ones are compilations of the best, but intended for different audiences -

Pretty much the best of Caleb's Mission

This is more for people who like the rock-blues side of what we did - not for the elderly, I don't think.

Lord, I’ve Tried Everything But You - wonderful country blues lyric of boozy repentance.   Best track from our first CD.

Are You Walking and a-talking With the Lord? / Serendipity Rag  A Hank Williams country one from the 1950s which we re-arranged to fit Ian's ragtime tune.

There Is A Green Hill Far Away  The old hymn set to the blues tune of House of the Rising Sun. This very unexpected arrangement includes Ian's favourite guitar solo.

Believe to my Soul  Everybody's favourite from the electric album. Jaunty little boogie with a good closing solo.

Shake off the Dust   A classic electric slow blues, with the theme taken, a little loosely, from Jesus' instruction to his disciples as to how they should act when they came to a town which would not welcome them.  A unconcealed swipe at certain churches.

Pray With Me  Ian's song, which one day will some recognition.  It’s possible to play this as a pretty worship tune, or a kids’ Sunday-club song… but Derek’s vocals invent the after-the-pub worship genre.

Preachin' Blues - the old 'I'm a Man' riff, with Son House's lyrics from 1930. Included here for the guitar/harmonica interplay.

Archangel's Boogie - unashamed excuse for some flashy lead guitar playing - but the two harmonica breaks steal it.

Caleb's Sunday Best

This is more middle-of-the-road, and intended for

HHI supporters of a slightly older generation!

Pray With me - as described on the left, but a more respectable version sung by Jean Summers.

There Is a Green Hill Far Away - as on the left

When I Say I am a Christian - fine poem by an American friend of ours

Are You Walking and a Talkin with the Lord - as on the left

My Man - the old blues, rewritten with Christian lyric

Wake Up Every Morning with a Smile upon my Face - lovely little country song by the late Boxcar  Willie

Think of these Things - fine song by Ian, based on text from St Paul

Mary, Did You Know? - super Christmas song from a couple of country songwriters in Nashville

Lord of the Dance - lively version of the contemporary hymn, played as folk-bluegrass.

And then there was....

Shake off the Dust - the electric album.

This was great fun.  The music is all medium-hard Chicago blues, with Derek and Ian enjoying long workouts on harmonica and lead guitar

respectively... but all the lyrics are Christian related.  Probably not one for the seniors.

In Real Life - Christian protest and revolution.  The cover drew complaint - a Bible, beside a pack of fags, tin of beer, and deck of playing

cards.  Notable for the first appearance of Walking and Talking with the Lord.

Compassion Road - the first album. Remarkable mixture of the excellent (Lord, I've Tried Everything But You) and the mediocre.  The labels

are about to be made into souvenir drip mats - honestly!
